Those are all awesome saving tips! 🙂 We also try and fix as much as we can around the house and we don’t buy bottled water either. You’re right – our tap water filter also costs a fraction of the cost and we replace it ourselves too (we’re probably using the same one! :-)) Good luck with your veggie garden and the hens – that is really going to be a money saver. Enjoy the gardening! I hope we’re going to be blessed with lots of rain this year. Let me know how the garden comes along – I’m sure you’re going to have lots of amazingly fresh, organic and very tasty produce! 🙂

Bought the bottle of handwash from dischem for around R15, now I just refill it with about 1/3 liquid handwash soap and top up with warm water. It really does last longer than regular handwash soaps. My hubby and I also try to do most things ourselves, like fixing things in and around the house, mending clothes etc. We also invested in a water purifier, we almost never buy bottled water anymore and I use the filter water in my kettle, which means there’s no build -up and the kettle will last longer. We also replace the the filters of the purifier ourselves, it is so easy to do and costs about a 10th of what it would have cost if a “expert” were to do it. Other small things – I have a toddler so I make play dough and paint for him, much nicer and cheaper than store bought, he loves to play in the sand with empty plastic containers, so no need for expensive sand toys! Recently got a few hens for free range eggs, and will be starting a veggie patch this weekend!
